Building level on a hill

The above image is of Southover Street in Hanover, Brighton and the pub in the foreground is the Dover Castle. I sometimes imagine scenes in my head of people leaving their densely packed Victorian cottages and swarming down the steep hill to The Level park on market days.

I have recently been interested in these homes and how they are built, level, on a hill. I don’t care much for the mechanics of it, just the curiosity and this curiosity¬†has led to a song idea.

To add some context to this post, The Creaking Chair played their first show at Hanover Day Festival in July 2009. I remember rehearsing for this in a perfectly level house on a hill in Hanover.
