Be our own boss

December 20th, 2010

At the beginning of this month The Creaking Chair were called ‘a bunch of c****’ by a promoter and were told that we will never be offered any support slots or sessions in the future with this particular person. So I said:-

“Hi NAME,

I am not writing this email to change your decision about inviting us to your gigs or sessions. I am casting my opinion. Please read on.

Firstly, your language, tone and attitude is bad. I would recommend being more professional and if you can, communicating more clearly, especially when speaking on the phone.

I made it clear via email (11th November) that I would much prefer email contact to text message and I asked you to keep me updated about who we would be playing with on the night. You need to reply to correspondence or check your emails more often.

I contacted via email and then text message on Sunday 28th November asking for a confirmation about the gig: who we were playing with and times etc. Two of the bands you mentioned seem to have no online presence (happy to be proved wrong). I think it is unreasonable to invite bands to a gig with no means of listening to each others music. I do not know you, therefore can’t have faith in your judgment.

I could not find any listings, posters or flyers about your nights. I understand that you have recently moved here and not settled yet, but advise that it is the promoter who should be doing the bulk of the promotion.

And finally, it should not be my responsibility to chase you about a gig. I heard nothing so I contacted you. This is why I turned down the opportunity two days before. I would like to ask when you were going to ‘text’ the details. The night before?

I hope you read this and I welcome a reply,
Andy”

It was immensely satisfying writing this email, even though I didn’t get a reply.

Merry Christmas!
Andy
